Zynga, King Digital Better Learn from the 'Console Wars'

Today's video game companies like Zynga and King Digital should remember to market heavily because you are only as good as your last game.

Nintendo dominated the video game market in the early 1990's by repeatedly launching blockbuster games and intimidating retailers, says Blake Harris, author of "Console Wars", soon to be a Sony feature film produced by Seth Rogen. Harris says Nintendo had such a stranglehold on the industry that it even prevented Wal-mart from carrying competing products. Nevertheless, Sega eventually hired a branding expert to break the Nintendo blockade and level the playing field. Harris says today's video game companies like Zynga and King Digital should remember to market heavily because you are only as good as your last game.
