YouTube (GOOGL) is gearing up to launch a subscription video channel named Red. The $10-a-month service will be ad free and feature movies, music streaming and video content from famous YouTubers. Users will also be able to download content to mobile devices and play music while still using other apps. Red is scheduled to launch on October 28th. The service will be aimed towards younger viewers who already spend a lot of time on YouTube and want an ad-free experience. Other digital content providers such as Hulu have also been experimenting with commercial free plans as ad-blocking software becomes increasingly popular among key user groups.
