Yahoo! Launches Daily Game to Capitalize on Growing Fantasy Market
Yahoo! (YHOO) has unveiled its Daily Fantasy game -- allowing fantasy sports fans to bet real money in daily and weekly contests for cash prizes. The company says for more than 16 years, it's offered a fantasy experience for its users, who spend nearly 30 billion minutes a year playing fantasy sports on Yahoo!. Yahoo! says it's gearing its new fantasy experience for the mobile player and is the only company to offer daily and full season fantasy as well as real-time sports news and scores. The company said, 'Yahoo's launch of Daily Fantasy provides a new opportunity for our existing partners to reach the highly engaged audience of fantasy sports players, which grew 40% in the last year alone, hitting more than 56 million across the U.S. and Canada (according to a recent study by the FSTA).' With an already large Fantasy Football user base, Yahoo! has customers primed for its daily fantasy sports offerings, an edge it may have over other sites like FanDuel and DraftKings, which are popular but must spend on advertising to attract new customers.
