The hype around the XFL, a subsidiary of WWE  (WWE) - Get World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. Class A Report, seems to be for real. After a successful opening weekend on February 8 and 9, ticket prices to games are already on the rise.

According to TickPick, the prices for tickets for the slate of Week 2 games have increased 17% from the Friday prior to the season opener. The average ticket price for week 2 games is $100-up from $83.

The current average listing prices for all Week 2 games are as follows:

  • Houston Roughnecks vs. St. Louis BattleHawks: $107
  • DC Defenders vs. New York Guardians: $101
  • Los Angeles Wildcats vs. Dallas Renegades: $98
  • Seattle Dragons vs. Tampa Bay Vipers: $94

With these ticket prices, it will cost the average fan more to attend a DC Defenders game, than a Washington Redskins game, the Defenders’ NFL counterpart.

TV viewership was stronger than expected as the first XFL game between the Seattle Sea Dragons and the DC Defenders drew more than 3 million viewers on ABC.

In terms of attendance, all four of the XFL’s games on opening weekend drew an announced crowd of more than 17,000 fans. The “get-in price” for the cheapest available ticket to the Defenders-Dragons game reached $130 on the secondary market, according to Sports Illustrated’s John Wall Street.

The XFL is hoping to keep up this momentum as it continues to appeal to football fans during the NFL's six-month-long offseason.
