World Cup 2018: FIFA Scandal Hurts Sponsorship Revenue

The World Cup takes place this month. Scandal has caused FIFA to look for sponsorships in new places.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicks off this month in Russia.

The 2015 scandal is still plaguing FIFA. They have had a difficult time keeping some big name sponsors, such as Johnson & Johnson and Castrol. Visa and Coca Cola have remained as sponsors.

FIFA sponsorship revenue declined from approximately $1.6 billion in 2014 to $1.4 billion this year.

To make up for lost revenue FIFA has shifted its sponsorship focus to Asia, Russia and the Middle East.

Qatar Airways, Wanda Group and Gazprom are major sponsors this year.

Qatar will host the 2022 World Cup.
