Why The North Face's Founder Is So Pleased With How VF Corp. Is Managing the Brand

The North Face is a gem in the sluggish apparel space. The brand has been owned by VF Corporation (VFC) - Get Report since 2000.

"They're doing a great job with it," said Hap Klopp, founder of The North Face who was involved with the brand for two decades starting in 1968.

Klopp said the key to The North Face's success, which saw a 6% increase in year-over-year revenue as of first quarter, is differentiation.

Sluggish apparel sales have contributed to the slew of store closures from retailers like Macy's (M) - Get Report and J.C. Penney (JCP) - Get Report .

That's why Klopp had only kind things to say about rival Canada Goose (GOOS) - Get Report, which went public back in March.
