House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and aides were shot at a baseball practice field in Alexandria, VA, Wednesday, Fox News confirmed.

The shots were reported on East Monroe Street in Del Ray, Alexandria police said on Twitter at 7:30 a.m. The location was near a YMCA.

The suspect is in custody, according to Alexandria police.

President Donald J. Trump issued a statement this morning:

"The Vice President and I are aware of the shooting incident in Virginia and are monitoring developments closely. We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of Congress, their staffs, Capitol Police, first responders, and all others affected."

Security around the Capitol and White House are tightened, according to police.
