The Harvest Moon refers to the full moon that falls nearest to the autumnal equinox, which happened to occur on September 22nd.

Because autumn is clearly the best time for spooky names, the Harvest Moon is followed by the Hunter's Moon, the Beaver Moon and the Cold Moon.
