What We Learned About President Trump's 2005 Taxes
Finally...we have President Trump's taxes.
President Donald Trump's 2005 tax documents were leaked to MSNBC's Rachel Maddow by Investigative reporter David Cay Johnson. President Trump paid $36.5 million on $153 million in income, that's roughly a 24% rate. He also took a write-off of $103 million.
Johnson pointed out that without the alternative minimum tax, Trump would have paid only $5.3 million, a tax rate of less than 4%.
Despite a long-standing tradition for presidential candidates to release their taxes, Trump has repeatedly said he could not release his tax returns because they were under audit.
