It's earnings season!

The banks are kicking off earnings season when JPMorgan Chase (JPM - Get Report) , Wells Fargo (WFC - Get Report) , and Goldman Sachs (GS - Get Report) report earnings Tuesday, Oct. 15.

So, what should investors watch when the banks report?

Zev Fima, analyst with Jim Cramer's Action Alerts PLUS portfolio and Ken Leon, director of equity research at CFRA, joined TheStreet to break down what they're watching.

"So I think a big picture, what you want to keep in mind with the banks is going to be the earnings conference call. These are kind of the lifelines of the economy and what they say on loan growth, on consumer credit and the deposit base growth are gonna have major implications as far as how people view the economic standing of the country...And, as you know, the consumer has really been what's holding the economy together because we've had that contraction in manufacturing. So it's going to be the loan growth commentary, the consumer credit, and anything else that kind of gives you indications on where the consumer stands," said Fima.
