What to Watch in Europe Next Week: Economic Forecasts, HSBC Earnings
In Europe next week, investors await some key economic data and earnings from HSBC Holdings HSBC, Europe's biggest bank. On Tuesday, the European Commission's spring economic forecasts for the EU an eurozone are released. 'We will see how optimistic the European Commission is in its spring forecast,' said Antonia Oprita, a senior editor and columnist with Real Money. 'We have to see whether these forecasts are better than the ones released in February.' The European Commission, back in February, estimated that the euro area economy would grow by 1.7 percent in 2016 with inflation rising 0.5 percent year-over-year. On Friday, first quarter GDP for the eurozone rose 0.6 percent, ahead of estimates. While deflation returned, core inflation rose 0.8 percent year-over-year.
