Jerome Powell will be sitting down in front of Congress later today to discuss monetary policy in his biannual Humphrey Hawkins testimony.
Kenny Polcari, senior market strategist with SlateStone Wealth, joined TheStreet on Monday to break down what he's watching from Powell's testimony.
Here's what he had to say.
"So, well there's a couple of things, but there's one really big thing, right? We've got the end of earning season with about 40 or 50 names going to report, you know, through the week. Not so much a big deal. Most of the big names have reported, but what you really have to pay attention to is [Tuesday] and Wednesday is the big biannual Humphrey Hawkins testimony or monetary policy report that Jay Powell now goes down in front of Congress, you know, the House tomorrow and then the Senate finance committee on Wednesday. And he's going to talk about the outlook for the U.S. Economy, where he sees potential pitfalls and not, and then obviously then the outlook for interest rates. Right now I think the whole idea was this rate...This year rates were going to stay the same because it is an election year. He doesn't want to appear to be partisan," said Polcari.
