Next week, everyone will be talking about Davos and if you've never heard of the Swiss mountain town, here's a quick primer.
Davos is one of Switzerland's largest ski resorts, with 200 miles of slopes. It is also one of the highest towns in Europe, at an elevation about 5,100 feet above sea level. Davis originally became prominent in the 19th century as a health resort. Davos actually consists of two large villages, Davos Dorf and Davos Platz. In mid-January, the town plays hosts to the World Economic Forum's annual winter conference. The meetings attract a who's who list of politicians, business people, philanthropists, celebrities and athletes. The first annual World Economic Forum meeting was held in 1971 with only 500 participants. This year, 3,000 people are expected attend the conference.
