Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show Draws the Best of the Top Dogs to New York City
Dog lovers congregate from all over the globe in NYC's Madison Square Garden February 16-17. 192 breeds of dogs will be on display, presented by Purina, a Nestle company. And this is big business. Campaign costs to get a dog entered is in the hundreds of thousands. In addition, Americans spend hundreds of millions of dollars per year in traveling and competition costs, according to the American Kennel Club. And to the sponsors the shows are a way to connect with elite handlers, an important demographic known in the industry as “pet influentials". David Frei, co-host and analyst of the Westminster show, joins TheStreet's Jill Malandrino at the Nasdaq Market Site for an exclusive look into one of 2015's new AKC breeds and some insight into the most coveted competition of the year and some whisper favorites.
