Scott Wren, managing director and senior equity strategist at Wells Fargo Advisors, expects better economic growth in the United States and the global economy to stabilize next year. With that in mind, Wren says Wells Fargo recommends its clients be in sectors, industry groups and stocks that are going to benefit from a continuing economic recovery. He says investors should be cyclically-oriented and involved in areas like technology, consumer discretionary and industrials. He doesn't advise clients to be overweight in defensives like utilities and staples. As far as interest rates, Wren expects that the earliest we may see the Federal Reserve raise rates could be the summer, and we may see two hikes in the second half of next year.
