Weekly Jobless Claims Rise More Than Expected
Weekly jobless claims rose more than expected over the past week.
The number of people applying for unemployment benefits rose by 6,000 over the past week to 244,000, compared to 238,000 in the prior week. Economists were expecting a smaller weekly increase, to 241,000 claims. The four-week average of jobless claims still stands at the lowest level in some 44 years.
