As part of the ongoing protests for higher wages, Walmart employees are holding strikes in 20 cities the U.S. on Wednesday, just two days before Walmart's annual shareholders meeting. Protestors want to raise associates' pay to $25,000 a year. Currently, the majority of Walmart associates earn less than $25,000 each year and the average hourly wage is about $8.80. The protestors also want the retail chain to stop retaliating against workers who go on strike. A judge in Oakland, California is hearing a case on whether Walmart illegally fired workers who went on strikes in 2012 and 2013. The case involves 60 employees and about a third of them were terminated after publicly protesting the retailer.
