Wake Up Wall Street: Stock Market Kicks Off the Second Quarter
This is what you need to know before the market opens:
1. Shares of Imagination Technologies (IMGTY) lost more £500 million ($625 million) in market value in London on Monday after Apple (AAPL) - Get Report , its biggest customer, said it will stop using the chipmaker's intellectual property starting next year.
2. U.S. automakers, such as General Motors (GM) - Get Report and Ford (F) - Get Report , will be releasing sales figures for March throughout the day.
3. Tesla (TSLA) - Get Report delivered a record 25,000 vehicles in the first quarter, an increase of 69% from a year earlier. Shares of Tesla were rising 2% in premarket trading on Monday.
4. Caterpillar (CAT) - Get Report closed its plant in near Aurora, Ill., and laid off about 800 workers. The world's largest construction and mining equipment maker said earlier this year it would cut jobs in 2017 because of anticipated declines in demand. It also estimated profit in 2017 would come in below analysts' forecasts.
5. Apple reportedly wants to sell consumers a premium TV bundle, which would combine HBO, Showtime and Starz. Apple already sells each of those channels individually. But Recode reported Apple has approached the three networks about rolling them up into a single package, as conventional pay TV operators sometimes do.
