VW Chairman Apologizes for Emissions Scandal, Shows Off New Concept Car at CES

Volkswagen Chairman Dr. Herbert Diess took to the stage at CES in Las Vegas, apologizing for the emissions scandal that's rocked the company, while trying to move forward by showing off a new concept car. VW introduced BUDD-e, a microbus concept vehicle that runs on an electric platform and communicates with smartphones. Dr. Diess said VW has shifted its strategy to focus more on electric and connected cars. While the automaker has been plagued with a sales slump since the emissions scandal occurred, Dr. Diess believes sales will recover in the U.S. once the company is able to move past the issue. He added that he sees a resolution for U.S. car owners who were impacted by the emissions problem, but due to complicated discussions with the EPA he can't give a timetable to a resolution quite yet, other than to say it will be within the next 'coming weeks and months.' He added discussions will continue with the EPA while the company deals with lawsuits filed against it. TheStreet's Rhonda Schaffler spoke with Diess in Las Vegas.
