The fallout from Volkswagen’s (VOW3) diesel emission saga continues. The company’s CEO Matthias Muller said Wednesday it will start recalling affected vehicles in January 2016, in an interview with a German newspaper. Some 11 million vehicles are littered with software that can sidestep fuel efficiency standards. The embattled automaker said it expects the vehicles to be fixed by the end of next year. But the recalls will largely be in Europe, which has 8 million affected cars. Reports suggest Germany has 2.8 million cars plagued by the scandal and the UK has 1.2 million. Some 950,000 are in France, 680,000 in Spain, 650,000 in Italy, 500,000 in Belgium, 363,000 in Austria, 129,000 in Switzerland. In the U.S., about 482,000 cars contain the software in question.
