There's a lot of things retirees can do to really protect themselves when there's volatility continues. We know there's a lot of great sectors you can look at. You know, healthcare can be a strong sector. Certainly there's consumer staples that tend to be strong, especially when consumers are still spending. Energy is always a big winner. Big thing that we want to do is make sure your portfolio is balanced and make sure you're on track and have the right balance in your portfolio for the long term.

The market has certainly become more volatile as huge shifts and both directions have become more of the norm than the exception. 

Needless to say, many investors are more than a little on edge. 

But what if you're nearing retirement? How can you protect your portfolio in your golden years? 

Well, In our Ask the Expert series, Tony Drake, CEO at Drake and Associates, weighs in.
