Stocks staged a rebound on Thursday, following multiple sessions of declines, thanks to better-than-expected results from Walmart (WMT) - Get Report .
"It was the first session in 50 that we saw a decline of more than 0.5%," said Matthew Cheslock, an equity trader with Virtu Financial. "This rally today is Walmart related."
Walmart's digital sales rose 50% year-over-year for its most recent quarter.
The S&P 500 is up 15% since the start of the year.
