Verizon Adds 1.5 Million Users, Tablet and Smartphone Sales Strong
Verizon, the nation's largest wireless carrier added one and a half million customers in the third quarter and most of them are exactly who Verizon wanted. Verizon posted more than $31 billion in sales, just as expected. But, on the bottom line, profits came in at 89 cents a share and narrowly missed estimates. Verizon relied on tablets and 4G LTE smartphones to get customers in the door. These customers are the ones Verizon likes because they typically end up paying more. CEO Lowell McAdam said, 'We see continued, healthy customer demand for wireless and broadband services, and we are encouraged by the growth we are starting to see in the areas of video delivery and machine-to-machine.' Verizon plans to roll out more promotions before year end to match its competitors' aggressive discounts.
