U.S. Stocks Opened Slightly Higher as the Federal Reserve Meets
U.S. stocks opened steady to slightly higher Wednesday as the Federal Reserve begins its most highly anticipated meeting in years. Debate continues on Wall Street on whether the Fed should or will raise interest rates. A slight majority, according to most polls, believe the Federal Reserve will stay put on rates. The 2 day meeting concludes Thursday afternoon, at which time the decision will be announced. Apple (AAPL) releases the latest update of its operating system today, iOS 9. Apple says the new version will speed up browsing, be more secure and use less battery power. It also has an updated Maps function. Companies are beginning to release their hiring numbers for the holiday season. UPS (UPS) says it will hire about 90,000 workers to help it meet shipping needs. Toys R Us will hire fewer workers but they will work longer hours.
