The University of Minnesota is suing the four largest cell phone providers in the U.S. for alleged patent infringement. The lawsuit claims that AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon are illegally using technology that was developed by a University professor. The technology had been established to improve the speed and efficiency of 4-G wireless data service. Complaints filed in court on Wednesday claim that five wireless communication patents are being infringed. The University is requesting royalties and damages from the companies. All four cell phone providers have declined to comment on the lawsuit.
