United Technologies has been awarded a billion-dollar contract from the U.S. Air Force. The companyâ¿¿s subsidiary Sikorsky Aircraft has been charged to develop new combat search and rescue helicopters for the military, basing its design on the already in operation UH-60 Black Hawk model. The current $1.28 billion award includes the development of the models, delivery of four units and seven aircrew and maintainer training systems. However, this contract is but step one in the eventual production of up to 112 aircraft, potentially worth a contract of around $7.9 billion. This marks the second major military contract for Sikorsky in as many months.
