U.S. Stocks Gain Steam as Fed Meeting Starts; Wells Fargo CEO Testifies on Capitol Hill
U.S. stocks gained steam on Tuesday, as the Federal Reserve's September meeting began. Its rate hike decision won't be released until Wednesday afternoon. Wells Fargo (WFC) - Get Report CEO John Stumpf is testifying on Capitol Hill before the Senate Banking Committee to address its questionable business practices of opening up fake bank accounts, which the bank paid a $185 million fine for. Wells Fargo shares rose 1.5%. Lennar (LEN) - Get Report shares gained 3% after reporting quarterly earnings of $1.01 a share, beating estimates of $0.89. Revenue of $2.83 billion also topped the $2.68 billion analysts were looking for. The company sold 6,779 homes in its most recent quarter, a 7.3% year-over-year increase.
