U.S. Bancorp, Comerica and PNC in Strong Positions Heading Into 2017
A better economy and prospects for reduced regulatory costs will benefit the banking sector in 2017, says Moody's.
Continued improvement in the economy, low unemployment and rising interest rates should help the banking sector in 2017, according to Moody's, which has issued a stable outlook for the group. Balance sheets have also improved, according to Joseph Pucella, a vice president and senior credit officer at Moody's. He says U.S. Bancorp (USB) - Get Report , Comerica (CMA) - Get Report and PNC (PNC) - Get Report are among the best positioned. Moody's says banks will benefit if President-elect Trump lowers taxes and reduces regulatory costs. On the downside, Pucella sees some heating up in the commercial real estate markets, which could be a negative.
