U.K. Lawmakers Hold a Debate to Discuss the Escalating Row Between Trump and May
U.K. lawmakers will hold an extraordinary debate in parliament Thursday to discuss the escalating political row between Prime Minister Theresa May and U.S. President Donald Trump.
Speaker of the House John Becrow granted the "Urgent Question" motion, which will be put to the House of Commons, following a Tweet from the President late last night, which he sent in response to criticism from May after the President shared a series of graphic videos that allegedly depicted acts of violence and desecration by Muslims.
The original Tweets, which included violent images, were posted by a far-right nationalist group known as 'Britain First', whose founders have faced arrest and prosecution for inciting racial and religious hatred in the United Kingdom.
A spokesperson for the Prime Minister, who is currently on tour in the Gulf region, told reporters Wednesday that it was "wrong for the President to have done this", but made no comment on Trump's subsequent Tweets.
