Changes in trade policy under President Trump could be significant for both state economies and revenues, according to Laura Porter, who heads state ratings at Fitch. "Trade is an area where the specifics are going to really matter a lot," says Porter. A recent report by Fitch states "it's currently impossible to predict whether impacts will be broad, regional or industry specific." Fitch released released its 2017 outlook for states, stating that the administratoin creates many uncertainties for state economies. Fitch rates most states as "stable."
