On Friday, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will meet with Donald Trump for the first U.S.-Japan summit of Trump's presidency. Trade is likely to be at the top of the agenda.

Major exporters in the world's third-largest economy will be on edge ahead of that meeting, following Trump's recent remarks on trade and tariffs. The U.S. president has said the behavior of the Japanese car industry is "not fair," and has caused alarm by suggesting he may label Japan a "currency manipulator."

Since the U.S. election, Japan's Nikkei 225 has gained 16.7% and the yen has fallen 11.1%. Investors worry that strained relations with the U.S. could halt Japan's economic momentum.
