Times Square Ball Will Ring in the New Year in a Smarter Fashion
The dropping of the Times Square ball in New York City may be a time-honored tradition, but this year, it will ring in the New Year using smart technology for the first time ever. This New Year's Eve, the numerals on the ball will be illuminated in colors that can be changed and controlled digitally. The ball also benefits from an 88% reduction in energy use thanks to advancements in LED technology. Philips Lighting North America CEO Bruno Biasiotta explains how consumers will be able to use the same technology in their homes and businesses.
