Good morning, it’s Thursday, April 9.

Here’s the latest on the coronavirus.

There are over 1.4 million cases of the virus worldwide, with over 88,000 deaths.

Over 332,000 have fully recovered from the virus.

The U.S. has over 432,000 cases--the most of any country worldwide.

In New York state, there are over 149,000 cases.

That case count actually exceeds Spains--which is just over 148,000.

New York state now has the second highest amount of cases in the world.

Spain comes third. And Italy comes fourth, with over 139,000 cases.

There are nearly 15,000 deaths in the U.S., which places the U.S. second in terms of highest death toll. Italy leads with over 17,000 deaths.

Spain has 14,700.

And New York, with over 6,000 deaths is fifth in terms of worldwide deaths, right behind France--which has over 10,000 deaths.

I know how eager everyone is for good news. And how eager the market is. However, all signs of a slowdown--as we got this past weekend when the case count and the fatality counts slowed--should also be approached with caution.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the death toll going into Wednesday was the highest single-day death toll so far--with 779 fatalities.

Experts have warned that the lockdowns across the world could continue for some time.

And New York Governor Andrew Cuomo warned that he doesn’t think that the state will “ever get back to zero.”

However, the glimmer of hope in this situation is that Dr. Anthony Fauci has said that this will be a bad week of deaths, but after this week the U.S. should see the “beginning of a turnaround.”

Turning our attention elsewhere in the world, India is considering extending the lockdown of its 1.3 billion citizens. So far, the country has been under lockdown for 21 days, and that lockdown is set to expire next week.

The Prime Minister has said that completely lifting the lockdown at this time is “not possible.”
