This Is How the Marriott-Starwood Merger Stacks Up to the United-Continental Merger
An update on the merger of Marriott International and Starwood Hotels.
Marriott International (MAR) - Get Report took steps to ensure a smooth integration of Starwood Hotels, in an effort to avoid the hiccups seen in the United-Continental Airlines (UAL) - Get Report merger from a few years ago.
"The most powerful thing we did was to link the loyalty programs the night of close," said Marriott International CEO Arne Sorenson in an interview with TheStreet. "If I was an SPG member and a Marriott Rewards member - or just one program and not the other - I could go onto a site, I could link the two existing accounts."
