Volvo just became the first automaker to set a date for phasing out combustion engine cars. All of Volvo's cars launched after 2019 will either be electric or hybrid.
The move signals the eventual end of nearly 100 years of Volvo being powered solely by combustion engines.
Electric cars currently make up a small fraction of new car sales but are gaining traction in the automotive industry.
The decision comes as Volvo takes steps towards an IPO.
