As seen this holiday season, despite strong efforts from traditional retailers, shoppers are increasingly headed online. Big-name retailers have felt the effect in their same-store sales and earnings outlooks. Target (TGT) - Get Report says holiday sales in stores fell 3%, while sales online rose more than 30%. J.C. Penney's (JCP) - Get Report comparable-store sales declined 0.8% during the holiday period. Kohl's (KSS) - Get Report cut its full-year earnings outlook due to lackluster holiday sales and intense promotions. Macy's (M) - Get Report slashed its full-year earnings estimates. The retailer also says it will close 68 stores by the spring to cut costs. Wells Fargo's retail analyst calls the sector "uninvestable."
