CEO of International Goldman Sachs Asset Management Sheila Patel says it's key to invest in yourself and push forward. To be sure, Patel is a Goldman Sachs (GS) success story. Patel joined Goldman in 2003 as a managing director and was named partner in 2006.

Patel now focuses on EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) and Asia Pacific excluding Japan for her role within Goldman Sachs. She serves on the Asia Pacific Management Committee and Growth Markets Executive Committee for Goldman.

Patel was recently elevated to Goldman's management committee by CEO successor David Solomon and retiring CEO Lloyd Blankfein.
