It looks like the rave reviews for tech companies' work place culture may be cooling off. Glassdoor.com has just released its annual list of the best workplaces in the U.S. The top performers are determined by employee ratings and surveys. Only 14 tech companies made the top 50, compared to 22 last year. Facebook dropped from number 5 to number 13, Apple was down to number 22 and Twitter crashed out of the top 50 altogether. So who were this year's winners? At Number 5 it's BCG, The Boston Consulting Group was praised for its diversity of work and people. Employees rated the company culture highly. They also felt the firm did a good job of giving back to society. Number 4 is F5 networks. The delivery technology company impressed employees with its good work-life balance. Engineers were particularly happy with competitive salaries and clear career paths. Number 3 is Nestle Purina PetCare. Workers liked the company's strong midwestern roots and friendly environment. They also felt that a lot of opportunity came from having a large and international parent company. 2 is consulting firm Bain and Company. Knocked from last year's top spot, employees say the company has incredible culture, smart people and a highly rated training program for new recruits. In at number one is Internet search giant Google, topping the list for the first time ever. Staff said the company benefits are world class and that Google attracts the most talented people. Employees are well compensated with stock equity and the free onsite perks make workers feel valued. So Silicon valley takes the top spot for 2014.
