The Downing of MH17 – A Distressingly ‘Happy’ Error for Putin and the Russian Economy

Dan Dicker, energy expert at thestreet.com talks with Jim Cramer about the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight 17. Many coincidences have left Dicker wondering just how big a ‘mistake’ it was for Russian Separatists to have shot down the Boeing 777. Ratcheting sanctions from the United States and a sinking oil price were putting immense pressure on the Russian economy, but since the jet’s loss, oil has strongly rallied and Europe again seems cowed in their approach to a pro-western Ukrainian government. If Putin did not give a direct order for the missile’s launch, he was far less than unhappy at the results, Dicker says.
