Tencent's Insanely Addictive Game Honour of Kings is coming to the U.S.
Tencent's smash hit mobile game Honour of Kings has racked up more than 80 million active daily users since it launched in 2015. In fact, Honour of Kings is the most popular smartphone game available, easily surpassing Niantic's Pokemon Go.
The free-to-download game is similar in nature to League of Legends, which is produced by Tencent's Riot Games. Users select a hero and play as part of a team, engaging in "an epic new 5v5 multiplayer online battle" set in arena.
Honour of Kings is so addictive the company restricted access to 1 hour per day for children under 12 and to 2 hours for children aged 12-18. One woman reportedly became so obsessed with the game that she suffered eye strain from playing too long.
Tencent is hoping to replicate the success of the game when it launches in the U.S. The company had originally planned to release the game in America in November but it is now believed the company has pushed back the release date to early 2018.
The global edition of the game, called Arena of Valor, has been westernized, replacing many of the Chinese characters from the original game. However, the company has confirmed the core playing methods will remain the same.
