As the Sundance Film Festival begins in Park City, Utah, the rise of independent film divisions from major movie studios in recent years has lessened the importance of film festivals. TheStreet's Scott Gamm speaks with Matt Lieberman a director in PwC's entertainment, media and communications practice to talk about how film festivals affect a film's success. He says festivals are important, but there are very few films that generate significant revenues from film festivals. Lieberman says festivals are used to drive the reputation and credibility of a film, along with a host of networking opportunities for filmmakers.
