Stocks Swing to New Highs; Homebuilders & Gold Stocks Big Gainers
Stocks all managed to close in the green after bouncing between small gains and losses on light volume Tuesday. Juniper Networks (JNPR) was among the S&P 500's biggest decliners. The stock continued its decline, a day after the company's CEO resigned. Alibaba (BABA) pulled back nearly 4%. The e-commerce giant topped more than $9 billion in sales for its made-up 'Singles Day' holiday. Homebuilder stocks rose with DR Horton (DHI) posting better-than-expected revenue despite missing earnings. Hovnanian (HOV) gained almost 7%. Gold futures settled $3.20 higher after struggling to dig itself out of an early loss. Gold stocks including Newmont Mining (NEM) and Barrick Gold (ABX) rose about 3%. It's a busy week for earnings for retailers. Macy's (M) kicks it all off Wednesday when it reports before the bell. JC Penney (JCP) will follow after the close.
