Stocks Open Higher, Investors Watch Overseas Developments
U.S. markets opened higher Wednesday as developments overseas keep investors cautious. Meanwhile, here at home there is a second day of good news from retailers. Target (TGT) says both its profit and sales grew. It says its changes in merchandise is paying off. The Target report was a relief after a string of disappointing sales from retailers caused some to worry about the upcoming holiday shopping season. Also, Lowe's (LOW) sales were stronger than expected as it benefits from a recovering U.S. housing market. Amazon's (AMZN) Black Friday deals actually start this week. It is offering its Black Friday deals this Friday, November 20, with deals continuing throughout Black Friday, which takes place on the 28th. Similar to the company's Prime Day event in July, Amazon says that new deals will be added as often as every five minutes.
