Goldman Sachs (GS) - Get Report reported earnings and revenue that topped Wall Street estimates thanks to a 25% year over year surge in trading revenue. Revenue from fixed income, currencies and commodities trading jumped 78%. Citigroup (C) - Get Report posted fourth-quarter earnings that eclipsed Wall Street's estimates, though revenue missed forecasts. Trading revenue surged 24% year over year and the bank returned $4.7 billion in capital to shareholders. Finally, the consumer price index for December rose 0.3% month over month The CPI rose 2.1% in 2016, topping the Fed's 2% inflation target.
