U.S. stocks have recovered from their declines earlier this year, but are in need of an upward catalyst, according to one expert. 'We saw stocks reach their year-start levels, so that was a positive point,' said Simon Smith, chief economist at FxPro, based in London. 'If we're going to move into positive territory for the year on the S&P 500, we need a reason for that and I think that's what the market is struggling for at the moment.' Stocks slipped on Thursday as oil prices slipped back below $40 a barrel. TheStreet's Scott Gamm reports from Wall Street.
