State Attorneys General to Probe Antitrust Issues on Dollar General Bid
Certain state attorneys general are investigating Dollar General's bid for Family Dollar over antitrust concerns. According to Family Dollar's public filing, regulators said they will assess competitiveness further and have asked for more documents. Family Dollar rejected Dollar General's improved $9.1 billion all-cash offer earlier this month. Its management recommended shareholders disregard the offer, saying it doesn't address the possibility that the deal would fail the antitrust review. Although $9.1 billion sounds attractive, Family Dollar believes the offer is meaningless given the regulation hurdles. Dollar General took the bid hostile following the second rejection. The company did not name the states involved in the investigation.
