Star Wars Battlefront Expected to Score Big for Gaming Industry
Game and console makers are expecting to score big with the upcoming release of some blockbuster games. Electronic Arts (EA), Sony (SNE) and Microsoft (MSFT) are expecting new titles to fuel industry growth, and make them money. Game makers are gearing up for the holiday season, the biggest quarter for the industry. ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’, ‘Halo 5’, and ‘FIFA 2016’ are expected to be homeruns, driving sales of both games and consoles. EA’s new Star Wars game is scheduled to be released on Nov. 17, which is a month ahead of the seventh Star Wars movie. ‘Star Wars: Episode VII --The Force Awakens’ hits theaters in December. Tokyo-based Sony, which has posted a loss in 6 of its last 7 years is hopeful. The company says it expects PlayStation consoles to boost its financial results. Microsoft is echoing a similar optimistic sentiment for its Xbox consoles, calling the upcoming releases the greatest game lineup in history, including Call of Duty and Fallout. Analysts at PricewaterhouseCoopers believe that the gaming industry will continue to grow at least for the rest of the decade.
