St. Jude Shares Slip on Defibrillator Battery Warning

Many investors were exiting their investments in the medical-device giant on news of the warning.

St. Jude Medical (STJ) shares were lower Tuesday after the medical device giant released a warning to patients. The company cautioned patients that some batteries on its implantable defibrillators could deplete faster than expected, leaving users "vulnerable should they need a shock from the device to restart their faltering hearts." St. Jude added that incidents of battery depletion have been rare, occurring so far on less than a quarter of one percent of its defibrillator products.
