Spain's central government has announced that it will invoke Article 155 of the country's constitution and suspend Catalonia's autonomy.
The move comes after the region's leader failed to drop an independence bid. Catalan leader was given until Thursday to withdraw the declaration of independence
Article 155 requires approval from both houses of parliament before it can be implemented.
A statement from the Spanish Government said "The government will continue with the procedures set out in Article 155 of the Constitution to restore the legality of self-rule in Catalonia".
