South Korean President Removed Amid Growing Samsung Scandal
The decision could open up the possibility for criminal charges against Park, along with Samsung's top executives.
South Korea's President Park Geun-hye has been removed from office amid an ever growing Samsung (SSNLF) bribery scandal that has engulfed South Korea in political turmoil. Two people died in protests that followed South Korea's Constitutional Court's unanimous decision to uphold Park's impeachment, according to the Associated Press.
Samsung's heir Jay Y. Lee was previously indicted on charges of pledging 43 billion won in bribes to Park's long-time associate Choi Soon-sil in exchange for political favors. Now that Park is removed, prosecutors have the option to file criminal charges against her.
